Actions/Erased Actions is a series of mixed-media drawings that explores time, space, and movement. Overlapping and intersecting black lines create fragmented and complete figures, documenting the changing forms of the body and the transitions between them. The lines are simultaneously a notation of form, a recording of time and a mapping of space. At the core of this process is the collaboration between artist and model. These un-edited events are embedded with the truth of the interaction. Each moment is documented, a performance with a beginning, middle and end. The nature of the line as well as the resolution of the figure is influenced by the length of the pose, ranging from one to three minutes. The dialogue continues to the depletion of stamina or focus, marking the conclusion of the piece. Later works in the series use white acrylic paint to ‘erase’ information. While Actions build form, Erased Actions simplify form. These drawings take the multiplicity of the action to the core of the event, distilling each action to its fundamental quality.
